Today I was going up to the office area at lunch from TMC and at the elevator I met a grandma with a granddaughter who was having a melt down about riding in the elevator. The granddaughter would not get in her stroller and was thrashing so grandma was having a hard time holding her. I decided to try and re-direct her and said “Hey I am riding up in the elevator, come on ride with me you can push the buttons!”
This did not completely distract her but she got quiet enough that she and Grandma could get into the elevator. When we are in the elevator I told her I was going to push a button and stop at a floor that people did not usually see. This quieted her just a little, she was still whimpering a bit, but had the “I am interested but I am not going to admit it” face. When the door on MA floor opened she was completely quite and leaned out to look out the door. Her eyes were huge and I could tell she though it was interesting to see that floor.
I did hear her start to cry a little when the door closed again, but at least I heped her grandma get her into the elevator and I hope she calmed down a little for th e rest of the ride home
Today I was playing with a couple siblings in the Woods. When I was on the top floor, I saw them again and asked them if they had teleported to the top. We then played a game called “teleporting” for a while. One of the siblings was too scared to go down the slide so I went with her. After she told me that I was the “funnest employee in the whole museum.”
This was yesterday, but while I was in the cave plaza I was talking to a guest and he mentioned he loved that we were all wearing Black Lives Matter shirts. He said he thinks it’s really important for more family based entertainment places to take an active stance against racism. He mentioned he was at Kings Island the other day and there were a lot of people wearing really hateful and violent shirts and nothing was done about it. I told him about how here if I were to see a shirt like he described here or if a guest brought it to my attention I would be able to and empowered to call public safety to help deal with the situation.
We continued talking about snakes because Louis and Tyson were both out and Louis was climbing all up the walls of his enclosure. He was a wonderful guest to talk to and mentioned he’s excited for when his family is back in town and he can take them here again.
This was also yesterday, but while I was in the Woods a little boy was talking to me about the temporary tattoos I was giving out and was taking his time figuring out which one he wanted and which one his brother would want. I complimented him on his purple nail polish he was wearing and we spent a little bit talking about our nail polish together. It was really cute and his mom thanked me a bunch for it.
Today it was pretty chill in TCM, but instead of trying to run a program I decided to push myself a little outside of my comfort zone and play more because I kind of have forgot how to play/have less confidence with it especially on slow days.
I was playing with some young friends in water works and we were using different sized containers to pour water into some of the tower things, they were super excited when I found the watering can because it was so big compared to the little measuring cups we were using.
(also shout out to Graham for pushing me and giving me advice on how to push myself outside my comfort zone to play)

Today while I was in NTP a girl came in who was very excited about the rocks and minerals and she told me she collects rocks and we talked about our favorite rocks and minerals for awhile before she left.

I was doing TCM roam and I noticed an egg sitting on the ground between Energy Zone and the turtle. I was going to pick it up, but a kid about 6 ran up for the around energy Zone and picked it up and gave it to me with a shrug saying “Free range chickens?”
