Saw a family leaving The Children’s Museum after several hours. The kids were terribly excited, and one of them shouted, “Yay! I’ve been waiting for this all day…THE ESCALATOR!”
We might consider adding an escalator to the museum…
Today while I was running The Floor is Lava in TCM, a girl and her mom were going through every tile together and both telling each other their answers to the prompt. It made my heart so full watching them because the little girl was so excited about her answers.
On Thursday, a Black family approached me, pointed to my BLM shirt, and said, “I notice the shirts you’re all wearing. I wanted to say I appreciate and respect you for doing that.”
Today in CIM, an 80 year old man shared his memories of Crosley Field. He lived in a house with the field as his neighbor and remembers watching games over the fence. I love hearing stories about our city inspired by our exhibit.
I was walking past energy zone and I heard the ball-drop alarm go off. I looked over to watch the balls drop and coming down in the cascade with the balls was a doll’s head. I bounced around on the floor with the balls and none of the kids seem to notice, or care.
We did find the body a little while later tossed over into Kid’s space. Phil was able to reattach the head so there is a happy ending.
There was a nonverbal young friend in the woods with their aunt. It was their first time trying to go to a busy place and took them 2 hrs to get ready to come. I promised to show him where the slide was and we set off, he was very happy. I made sure to tell the aunt that coming early or late in the day would be great for learning how to navigate public places here. They bought a membership and I’m excited to see them again.
While playing the Floor is Lava, one young guest had their beaded necklace fall off. They then pretended to pick the necklace up carefully without touching the floor, as if it were actually lava
Today while I was running the Fireball stage show, I had some grown up guests afterwards mention they appreciate my little bit about fire safety (fire is dangerous, be careful, know where your fire extinguisher is, etc) and my joke about it being therapeutic to set some pollen on fire. Between the two runs of the show there were quite a few friends who stayed to watch it twice and they said they loved the show and that it looked super cool and that they hope that we do it again next time they’re here so they can see it again.
Today I came down to Cave Plaza to Jen showing guests Racket the ball python, a lot of guests were super interested asking her a bunch of questions and we started to kind of tag team answering questions together. It was awesome and I’m super excited to get trained to run animals next month.
I was in Dino Hall and I aske a you visitor what his favorite dinosaur was. He told me Godzilla. he had Godzilla mask on so I should have had a clue. I told him I loved Godzilla and even had a Godzilla T-shirt. He was so excites he started to dance and jump around talk very fast in Japanese, which I think was his 1st language. the grown-up with him started laughing and said she wouldn’t translate, but that I had made his day by saying I liked Godzilla
Today while I was in the woods, a friend was crying to his mom because he was too scared to go into the tunnel and down the slide by himself because he was scared there were bats and spiders in there. He really wanted his mom to go with him but she couldn’t because she was carrying her little little one. I then offered to go up with him and air pinky promised that I would check for spiders and bats for him. He was still a little nervous but took my hand and we went though together, I went down the slide first and he came down after me. He was so excited after he went and thanked me so many times because he had a lot of fun going down the slide and wasn’t scared of it anymore.
A shy younger guest and I bonded over watching the caterpillars poop. We watched as it formed in the hatch and down the chute. The mom turned away as it fell out.
I was engaging with a guest and discussing the paleontology lab and how neat it is, and continued speaking with them down the ramp to Cave plaza. The conversation ranged from paleontology, zoology, big bone lick, Thomas Jefferson, and the museum itself, of course. Was a delightful chat for both of us.
I did the Dust Explosion stage show and a bunch of kids stayed after and asked a bunch of really good questions. After, they were all sharing stories about their birthday candles and it was very cute 🙂
Bonded with a kid whose 1st language was Japanese through our shared love of godzilla. We both think the suit from Godzilla vs. Kong from the 50s is the best godzilla suitimation suit
