A kid came running into TCM this morning, tripped over his own feet, and slid on his face into the museum. His mom looked at him, obviously worried that he was about to start crying. He jumped up, raised his hands over his head and shouted, “SAFE!” Then he ran to the energy zone.
I had a really nice conversation with a family from between Cincinnati and Dayton in the Cincinnati History Museum today. They had not had a memebership since the kids, who were late teens early 20’s, had been little, but came to the museum on a whim last week. They spent the whole afternoon in the Museum of Natural History and Sciecne and were so impressed they purchased a family memebership.
This week they came back to go through the Cincinnati History Museum. I ran into them in late afternoon on Friday in The Public Landing. It was toward the end of the day and they were only guests in the gallery so when they asked me a few questions we had time to just chat. We talked about Cincinnati in the mid 1800’s, and then what this area is like now, and how there are so many things happening now that are still impacted by people and movements and institions that started in this area in the time period depected in the Public Landing.
They were also especially impressed with the Made in Cincinnati gallery. It was really great to have the opportunity for a nice long chat with guests who were getting so much enjoyment out of their membership, and were so happy to have a staff member around that had the time to just talk with them.
Thursday I was working in the Woods and a kid around 5 ran up to me and said “You would be really adorable if you were the size of a rabbit” then when right back to playing with the other kids in his group.
On Sunday 1/22/23 I was working in Dinosaurs of Antartica and I noticed a mom trying to take a photo of her 4 year old in from if the Crylophosarus skeleton. He was not cooperating and was jumping around and not holding still. I asked her if she wanted me to take a photo of the two of them together. She said that would be wonderful and gave me her phone. I snapped a few different photos of the two of them and then gave her back her camera.
When I gave it back to her she thanked me a bunch of times and I notices that she was almost in tears. She said that she was a single mom and she hardly had any photos of her and her son together on outings because she didn’t have anyone else around to take photos of the two of them. She said I couldn’t know how much it meant to her that I offered to take the photo. I told her that getting to take family photos was one of the fun perks of our job and that any time she is here at CMC she can ask floor staff to snap a photo for her and they will be happy to do it.
