  1. It was slow in SI and I was fooling around making flying objects in the wind tunnel. A mom came in with a little boy who was around 3.
I shows him how to put the flying objects in the wind tunnel. Every time he put one in he leaned back and looked up and shouting ” “wooooow” at the top of his lungs as the flyer went up.

  3. Graham: did you have fun today – yes. Did you learn something- yes. What was it? – I forgot!!!
Graham then showed them some data on the map about how to read wind speed.

    1. I was in cave plaza and I heard mom talking to her child who was about 3. “”We have 30 more minutes what do you want to do?)
(Elevator.) Is what the kid said.

They spent next 20 minutes going up and down on elevator.

      Push button to call it.
      Get on.
      Push button.
      Go down.
When elevators came back up they got off. Waited for door to close then started whole process again.

  4. I did the Bernoulli Principle demo and as I finished, more people wandered over, so I did it again. As I finished, more people drifted in, so I did it AGAIN. By now time was running short. As I caught the watermelon for the last time, a girl called from the ramp, “But why doesn’t it just blow away?!”

I referred her to the Bernoulli blower in TCM.

  6. I was talking to a mom who was sitting at dinner when her about 3 year old daughter came up and said ” Have I played enough that I can go back to the dinosaurs?”

Mom told me it is her favorite place in Museum they had already spent 1/2 hour there with her daughter just sitting there looking at dinosaurs and smiling.

    I recognized a kindred spirit.

  7. So. I was in Lego cleaning up the lego tables a bit, a boy walked up to Sam and I and we ask him what he’s going to build. He says a car and gets building. When he proclaims that he’s done I asked how fast his car can go.
He dropped it on the table from about a foot and a half in the air and as it falls into pieces he says “about zero mph, it disintegrated”

  8. Towards the end of the day on Saturday 12/17 I spent about 30 / 45 minutes talking with a young man in his early 20’s who is a semi regular visitor. He is on the automatic spectrum and have deep micro knowledge about Insects and other animals. Because of my background at both Museum, zoo and being a naturalist I had a lot of “behind the scenes” type stories he didn’t know and he loved learning new stuff. I also could keep up with his shifting topics and the exact details he had on some things. At one point we were discussing whether or not you could breed a riding giraffe.
He was especially excited that I could talk about how we care for animals here and how that was different from when I worked in Insects House at the zoo. At one point we got to talking about Elephant -vs- mastodons an how elephants are treated in Zoos and circuses. I told him that my grandfather had been a lawyer for several famiky circus in the 50s. Then we and his dad ended up talking about circus history which was another one of his areas of interest.

I could tell he didn’t get folks who are willing to have long eclectic but detailed conversations with him. It was just fun and satisfying to make a guest that happy.

They finally left because his dad had to go, but he thanked me for talking time to talk about so many strange topics with his son.
