A man who I had spoken with earlier in Cincinnati in Motion came up to me and asked about the Job Corps building outside of Union Terminal. While we were going over its history, he was reminded of when a few decades ago he was picked up for a business trip in the museum parking lot by a helicopter! He was delighted to remember that, and was thankful for the insights that I could provide him. Overall it was a lovely experience for both of us.
I had two siblings super excited for Mission Designer. They went through all three missions with 100% report cards and little direction from me. The sister wanted to work at NASA , while the brother wanted to be a marine biologist. They had a fun time in space and loved looking and interacting with the exhibits.
I had a dad and son do Dino Sizes with me. They were excited to learn the sizes of dinosaurs. Afterwards the dad’s eyes lit up at learning all about the dinos in dinosaur hall. It was fun!
While running nanotech nature with a family I gave the *lite* version for the youngest visitor to understand. The mom came back and was really intrigued at the concept of structural coloration. After answering all her questions, she thanked me and said “my mind is blown.”
One of the school groups was in Cincinnati in Motion with me and were so excited when I asked them to help me find all 10 rainbows hidden in the display. I saw the group a few times throughout the museum and they always ran up, “Miss Samantha, Miss Samantha! What’s this thing?” and it was awesome to see them so excited about the exhibits.
I had a little girl come do Mission Design who had on a spangly sequein NASA t-shirt. I told her I liked it and she said she had just got it for her birthday which was today. We talked about how cool it was to come to the Museum on your birthday. She did the Activity and had a successful mission. She asked me if she could do it again, and again all afternoon. I said it was up to her grown-ups maybe she should go run a Mars rover instead because she had not tried that yet. She was SO excited to “be in space” for her birthday.
I was walking a couple up to the rotunda so they could find their way around and I explained to them where all the exhibits were then talked about our new ones. The lady expressed she wished that I could join them for the rest of the day.
