I was in the kiosk going through some Memories of the Day to add to the next edition of The Echo when suddenly I heard some guests singing Happy Birthday to Alex, because they noticed the “It’s my special day!” sticker we made him wear. It was a perfect Memory of the Day moment 🙂
Last week when I was in MNHS 1st thing in the morning I spent almost an hour talking Dinosaurs with a 5 year old. I kept asking his mom if she wanted to leave, but she said she was happy to let me talk dinosaurs as long as he wanted unless it kept me from doing other work. She said he loved dinosaurs and didn’t have anyone at home who loved them as much to geek out with.
Later in the day I ran into them in other parts of the Museum. Every time I did he would say “Hey you want to know a dinosaur fact?” and then tell me one of the things I had told him that morning.
I was in the Woods this morning handing out tattoos to a family who had just completed the scavenger hunt and the dad was asking me questions about monarch butterflies and was super excited when I said that you can raise them at home (noting of course to release them 24-48 hours after they emerge from their chrysalis)
One day this week I was in history at the end of the day and it was really slow, there was no one in the lower level and only a few folks in the upper level. I had a guest ask me some questions about Clifton in Cincinnati in Motion and we got into a chat about living and spending time in Clifton in the 1960’s and early 1970’s. We ended up talking for about 45 minutes off and on. At one point I told her I felt like our chatting was taking up all her time and I wanted her to see the rest of the museum because it was just as amazing as Cincinnati History Museum. She said that she had gone out and gotten a memebership so she could come back and that it had been one of the most pleasent afternoons she had in a while. It was a great afternoon for me too@

Had a young boy in TCM this morning who was here from Michigan and was very sad we didn’t have any Alligators.
I am not sure if he thought a Museum should have Alligators, or if he thought they lived in Ohio.
We talked about them for a while, I told him all my good Alligator facts, and he decided he might have to go to the zoo to see them

Kid/Dad comment of the day – Overheard in rotunda
Dad to 3 yo. “Do you want to go see the Dinosaurs?’
Kid, “I want to go potty, then go look at the busses”. Points at the busses outside waiting to pick-up school groups leaving CMC

It was a really wonderful experience all around.
